Specialist Providers of Vasectomy Reversal

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Some of the most frequently asked questions are dealt with below. Your counsellor will be able to answer any further queries by telephone or at individual consultation.

Can all vasectomies be reversed ?

Generally speaking yes, but occasionally the tubes are badly damaged meaning that effective rejoining cannot be achieved. However, you will still be fertile if we are able to join only one tube

Am I still producing sperm ?

Most men are still producing sperm even though the connecting tubes have been severed. The unused sperm is absorbed as a waste product.

When can I have sex again ?

As soon as you feel comfortable. However, you should avoid sexual intercourse for three weeks.

When will my partner become pregnant ?

Pregnancy is a multi-factoral occurrence and will be determined by factors other than your producing sperm. Generally speaking, it takes up to one year to re-establish full sperm production. We usually test your semen after three months to determine success.

What can be done if the operation fails ?

Our counsellor will discuss alternative options both before and after your operation. These options fall into two broad areas: direct extraction of sperm from the testes combined with an IVF treatment, or donor insemination
